About The Artwork
I painted this before I started the flags, so I had no preconceived notion of this being a "style" and you can see that I fought with it and mixed colors and layered things up high until I found something that could properly catch my energy in that moment. A recurring theme in my experiments with this medium has been finding the intention to capture fine accurate detail and the intention to leave behind high energy strokes at odds with one another. I believe focus Is the variable that can bring together precision and spontaneity. "Percussion" is a project that Is made purely of spontaneous and precise marks. It is a record of intense focus that speaks for itself.
