About The Artwork

The empty (negative) space is as important as the visual elements in the oil work, I allow the viewer to build their own narrative, hence its name. This piece is based on spontaneity and instinct, built by the pieces of my childhood. The application of markings and large shapes of textured color are meant to evoke a response to who we are, a feeling to speak of.

Nuria (b. 1990) in Murcia (Spain). Self-taught contemporary abstract artist, she lives and works in Gijón (Asturias) for more than 15 years painting. For a few years she was a teacher at a school art academy, then she decided to leave and dedicate herself full time as a professional painter. She began painting in search of self-expression. The artist herself mainly uses a mixed technique (oil, acrylic, pastel or any organic material extracted directly from nature, sand, clay, stone...). She with a palette and a method in constant evolution. Oliva enjoys experimenting and challenging new forms of expression through technique, each piece reflects a subjective and emotional personal moment due to emotions or connection in her past or present memories, capturing it in an abstract way. The color and the ascending stroke loaded with pigment are his way of recognizing her paintings. Mainly the basis of her paintings is on natural cotton fabric, designed to obtain a first visual connection, thus giving the viewer a feeling of purity. Her hands play an important role since they are the main tool with which she paints. IG: nuria__oliva
