About The Artwork

From the “Marina Reflections” series.
The one blessing in this extraordinary time is the mental space for reflection. I am grateful to find direction and meaningful work amid all the chaos beyond our control. Frequent walks around Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham have inspired my newest series of paintings, Marina Reflections. Water reflections of the pleasure boats and commercial fishers captured my attention. My interest is purely visual, but the metaphorical content is not lost on me. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, there is hope. Our resilience lifts us to create, and to enjoy art, music, poetry and all that is still available to enrich our lives. The painting is signed, and wired. Gallery wrapped edges are painted, no need to frame.

My work on canvas has evolved from traditional approaches, including landscape and still life, to textured, abstract forms and conceptual work. Ever evolving, "Marina Reflections" is my latest series. Most paintings are acrylic on canvas, although several are oil. Inspired by walks around the harbor in Bellingham, camera in hand, capturing reflections in the water of pleasure boats and commercial fishers. More can be seen on my website, www.mirakamada.com. I earned a Master of Arts degree in painting/studio arts from Marshall University, and was honored with the Arthur Carpenter Award for Excellence in Art. I'm a member of Women Painters of Washington. I’ve exhibited on both U.S. coasts—from New York to California, as well as the Pacific Northwest and Canada. My work is represented in both private and public collections and has appeared in feature films. I continue to explore the many possibilities of paint, printmaking and mixed media. It’s a wonderful vocation.
