I was inspired to paint this Charlie Brown character due to its popularity in the culture. In my mind I imagined a character of Charles Schultz's existing in a phantasmagorical, abstract and changing world. A philosophical environment. Pig Pen's dirt is clearly visible, which is the aspect of him which viewers identify as being his. He is therefore identified and shared cultural experience takes place between the viewer and the portrait.
