About The Artwork

"Pinky Pete" is an impressionistic style portrait of a French Bulldog. This is a "pet portrait" which I have stylized to reflect the personality of Pinky Pete. He would not stand still, of course, and I did not want to paint him sleeping. I wanted a composition that reflected his courageous nature. After several tries, I finally found the right photo to show what I was "seeing" in this cute little dog. The colors range from bright red-pink to deep purple. The portrait is very modern in brushwork and composition. Pinky Pete stands to the left of the canvas and appears intent on "standing his ground". I love the expressive curves of this feisty breed and the contrasting black/white of their coloring. This painting melds the shapes of the french bulldog into his background without losing the distinctive curves of his structure. 16" x 16" x 1.5" This painting is on canvas attached to a 100% birch wood panel which has been stained a deep brown to complement the painting. It is ready to hang without further framing with a depth of 1.5" as shown above.

I was once traveling with a close friend, photographing everything in sight, as any tourist does. I asked him, "Don't you want to take any photos?" He answered, "I like to remember things in my own way." What a profound statement - and one that I take seriously when I paint. My art is about remembering things . . . in my own way . . . and "disremembering" everything else. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, my artistic career began at an early age when I began painting with my mother on Sunday afternoons. Surrounded by art books, paintings and sculpture at home, I always knew I wanted to be a painter.
