About The Artwork
This painting is based on a drawing and a photograph of an abandoned pond next door to The Conquering Hero pub at Crown Point near Crystal Palace in South London which is the home to a pig called Frances Bacon. Everything has been allowed to run wild. The area hasn't been attended to in years and there is a sense of a 'forgotten place'. It even has benches you can sit on to view it but I have never seen anyone sitting on them. There does not seem to be any public access to it so it is caught in time and has a wild, uncontrolled feeling even though it is corralled behind a hefty metal fence. I wanted to go to the other side but couldn't so concentrated on the confusion and muddle of plants close to my feet.
