About The Artwork

Old master’s technology. Not finished yet. Ending is coming very soon! In the history of art, there have been examples when a particular painting of the artist was pursued by notoriety. In the 18th century, it was seriously believed that some works could negatively affect the owners, sitters, or the master himself. It is logically impossible to explain such a strange point of view, but people believed and were afraid ... Such dubious fame accompanied the painting by Vladimir Borovikovsky “Portrait of Maria Lopukhina. The artist painted this portrait in 1797 from the image of the daughter of a retired general Ivan Tolstoy, eighteen-year-old Maria. The customer was her husband, Jägermeister and acting chamberlain at the Court of Emperor Paul I, Stepan Avraamovich Lopukhin. Looking at this flirty, full of life beauty, it's hard to believe that just five years after the creation of the portrait, she will die of consumption. Secular society was shocked ... And soon someone invented a legend that one glance at a portrait can lead any girl to death. In the salons of the capital, it was rumored that "Portrait of Lopukhina" took the lives of about a dozen maidens for marriage. Superstitious people even claimed: the picture is filled with the spirit of a young countess, taking the souls of young ladies. I was captivated by her gaze of a naive young girl and an aristocrat who knew her own worth.

I am member of Artists Trade Union of Russia. And I'm going crazy about the old masters technique. Because I am sure that mediocrity is often hidden under abstraction. The old masters had a really deep knowledge of aerial perspective, anatomy, chemistry, they showed amazing depth and shades that cannot be mixed on a palette. I learned that the secrets were revealed, and I decided get master skills in order to get closer to the perfection of high art. I believe that my mission is to instill in people a love for beautiful things, objects, colors and shapes and to develop taste. Convince people not to fall for fashion and mindlessly not settle for poor quality.
