About The Artwork

I struggled a lot with the text for this painting because as I read about the Stonewall uprising where the change started to take place, the LGTBQ community, the Pride flag, and the struggles of people for basic human rights…I realized how lite I know and how much there is to tell. Bottom line and the main idea that I’d like to leave you with is this- live and let live, we are indeed all equal and we all have a life to live as happily as possible such as our souls dictate and as long as we do no harm to any other then it is no crime and definitely no other’s business who we fall in love with or how we need to express ourselves.

Simona Florea’s art is at heart based on the purist notion of geometric, clean two-dimensional shapes, uniting the positive qualities of precision and simplicity by stripping the unnecessary and retaining the essential.      For her, each work is created through a synthesis of the Hegelian dialectic, from the very conception of the idea through every layer until its finish. An evolution by opposing sides unified in contradiction only to transmute into the next layer and start over again until the work has reached its completion.   However, as opposed to purist aesthetics, Simona places the human, specifically the female figure at the center as inspirational but also integral to her work. Recently, mirroring her personal inner work, she introduces a new opposing side to the discourse, challenging its current limitations to reach closer to universal beauty and harmony- calling it “stepping out of the self-imposed lines” allowing space to break the rules and to become.   You can follow this back-and-forth debate through the accomplished harmony between the rigidity and softness of the well-defined lines, the carefully chosen and placed colors, the duality of flat two-dimensional physical shapes painted smoothly to enhance the sense of impersonal objectivity and the depth of the uncontrollable inks. In a sophisticated way, while staying true to her inner constant growth, she intuitively synthesizes the representation of the inner self to the outer world and vice versa
