Before I start on a large painting I often paint a smaller version to see how everything works. I call them sketches but they are proper oil paintings in their right. This is a 12 x 16 inch "sketch" of an English robin taking ownership of an abandoned Land Rover Defender. Painted in Winsor And Newton Alkyd Oils on a standard cotton canvas.
