Purple Bloom Painting

This work "Purple Bloom", along with others, is a larger version of the greetings cards that I started to making in Japan. I had just discovered beautiful chiyogami paper which I incorporated into my cards and consequently my paintings. The purple abstract painting contains a contrasting chiyogami to the border. The work is on sturdy oil paper and it highly textured. I have used egg shell, texture paste and gold leaf. The circles motif runs throughout my work. They represent beginnings and endings; hellos and goodbyes; life coming back to the same places, albeit it with more knowledge. The work is set on a thick, slightly-textured white paper with a torn edge. To ensure an easier mailing experience, this painting is unframed. My work is influenced by Japanese art and crafts and also my practice of yoga and meditation. The purple represents the crown chakra Sahasrara which connects us to the universe at large.
