In our postmodern era, It’s getting harder and harder to create something unique or to be extraordinary. Under the influence of social media and the accessibility of loads of information, it’s getting easier for people to imitate each other and lose the way to their true selves. I am not trying to put this in a negative context, but instead to focus on reality, which is an inevitable and natural process of transformation. In this reality, I try to find balance by being an observer of the outer world and at the same time concentrating on my inner voice, feelings and thoughts. I also try to often remind myself of the impermanence of all things, which helps me to keep space between myself and the conditioned reality. In my painting series “River of Imagination” the river is a symbol of our impermanent existence and the swimmer is a way of life we choose. Sometimes the swimmer accepts life’s conditions and swims in the direction of the current, sometimes she decides to resist it, but despite the struggles, the river flows its way, it has a source, a beginning, and an end, where it merges the ocean, the permanent. That’s why it’s vital for the swimmer to stay true to herself, to appreciate her uniqueness and individualism which becomes the source of love and freedom. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture of Tbilisi Academy of Arts, people's houses became a new inspiration for my paintings. I realized that nothing speaks about the character and inner world of a person as profoundly as their home. I created a series of paintings where the houses are imagined as portraits of people, each house is unique and different from the other, yet all these houses are part of a bigger home. These paintings were created on pieces of old wood, a medium that requested a different kind of approach and became very interesting for me. Old wood pieces were not easy to find, so hunting for them became a part of the creative process for me. I believe that searching for the new is a way of finding inner freedom. We can’t control all the conditions of our lives, but when we choose to do what we love to do, we achieve harmony and become capable of sharing love and positive energy with the world.
