About The Artwork

This is mixed media painting of African Queen Amina of Nigeria. It is a portrait painting with a lion and African scenery in the background. She is wearing a white headwrap and golden beads/fabric around her shoulders. This African wall art also has a metallic paint patterned effect that picks up the light and well blue Ankara fabric on the edges. This black history artwork was inspired by Queen Amina, also known as Queen Aminatu. She was a Nigerian queen who ruled over a vast stretch of land in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Born into the royal family of the city-state of Zazzau, presently known as Zaria, she was trained in political and military matters since her childhood. Jedidah enjoys using fabric in her artwork as she feels this is a big part of the African heritage and adds to the authentic essence of the artwork. The rich colours of the fabric are rich and its feel, all adds to the beauty of the piece and its story. It measures 50 by 50 cm and does not need framing. The artwork comes signed on the front and back with a certificate of authenticity. It is also ready to hang with D-rings on the back.
