Their coloring is also unconventional, often in vibrant colors, so that in Ján Chlpka's work, a tomcat can even be green. The entire artistic world of Ján Chlpka is essentially defined by warm, bright colors and breathes positive energy. On the other hand, his artistic world is somehow ‘soft’ and pliable... because the contours of his people and animals are always rounded. We never encounter a sharp or angular shape in Ján Chlpka's paintings. The village scenes in Ján Chlpka's paintings are placed into the empty space of the canvas, where the sky and the earth can always be clearly distinguished. The surroundings in which the scenes are set are clear, almost desolate. Upon it, one can notice only a solitary blade of stylized grass and occasional, also highly original stylized trees—both in terms of their shape and color palette. (Vladimir Valentik)
Ján Hlpka (Chlpka) was born in Glozan (Vojvodina, Serbia) in 1965. He completed primary school in Glozan, and secondary school in Petrovec and Futog. He graduated in veterinary medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He works as a veterinarian. He began engaging in fine arts during his studies. He painted his first picture in 1986 and presented his work to the public for the first time at his first solo exhibition at the Zuzka Medveďová Gallery in Báčsky Petrovec in 1993. Since then, he has been intensively involved in painting. He developed his own recognizable style and has been rewarded many times for his works.
