Glenn Fitzpatrick A.K.A... "Fitzy". Artist/ Author (Arts and Mines)/ Gulf War Veteran 1991. Glenn Fitzpatrick, born Gravesend 1971, nick named "Fitzy" by his friends in the army, first started getting recognised for his artistic abilities when he was requested to draw motifs on the military hardware within his regiment (Queens Royal Irish Hussars). This consisted of drawing modified dessert rat logos on the sides of tanks, missiles and armoured personnel carriers, it was in exchange for rations and cigarettes. Soon after leaving the army Fitzy went back into education whilst working on building sites and going to night school. Fitzpatrick finally got accepted to UCA Canterbury (KIAD) art school in 1997 for a degree in fine art, and from this he won a scholarship for M.A. Fine Art(2001). Since leaving art school Fitzy, took up the pen as his medium and weapon of choice, and metaphorically coincides with the saying "The pen is mightier than the sword!" It is this reference that provides a vehicle towards placing an emphasis upon our forever changing world's facets. Fitzpatrick's ongoing project is called "S.O.S." (Symbols of Society), this allows Fitzy to investigate and present a drawn discourse that becomes more apparent through the use of metaphors and hidden narratives. Fitzy addresses our current affairs whilst subtly masking over the raw depictions with an aesthetical balance, thus creating a harmony within his compositions. Be it via cynicism, comedy, or romanticism, Fitzy wishes to communicate and have fun within this subject matter, his intention is to present us with illusional but yet evolving morphological drawings. The first impression may not always be the right one, but Fitzy's art always engages you from a distance as well as close being in proximity; and his depictions are always worth a second glance.
