Noelle Maline is a California-based artist whose work is about documenting transparent things and recording imaginary communication. Being able to see sound and hear shadows. Her work delves into the unseen and untold, translating the static, echoes and sound waves of the past into something that is tangible. ' Decoding faint messages. Quietly observing information. Mapping and cataloging things that were left behind. Gathering and connecting untold stories of the places and people we never knew ' --- My art explores the stillness where the past lingers and unseen stories reside. These are ‘sound maps’ and ‘ghost portraits’ and ‘portraits of repurposed memories’, creating new narratives from remnants and forgotten histories. Through mixed media paintings, assemblages and collages these themes are explored. Using paint, ink, old photographs, hand cut-outs, and drawings, alongside found objects, narratives are constructed that bridge the tangible and the intangible. Ultimately, the goal of my work is to create a dialogue between the viewer and the unseen, inviting contemplation of the lingering echoes, the unspoken stories, and things found in the forgotten fragments of time. ~~~ Noelle Maline grew up down by the sea in an old lookout tower, a childhood that shaped her artistic imagination. Her mother, a librarian, teacher, and painter, collected shells and rocks and orchestrated whimsical themed parties and film nights. Her father was a great storyteller who organized family adventures. Inspired by her older brother's passion for surreal films and painting dioramas, Maline and her brother would peer out at the sea from their slanted tower, searching for lost ships. These experiences inspired a fascination with the sea, unseen communications, and lost ghosts. Through her art, Maline translates these intangible mysteries into a tangible language. Noelle Maline currently lives and works down by the sea near Los Angeles, California
