This painting is a rework of an older painting. The original painting, Hollywood Theater, was simply a marquee on a blue background. While it looked nice enough, I felt that it was time to rework it. As a result, Red Arch was born. Red Arch is an abstract piece and is in no way intended to be an archway into anything. The original blue background remained so I felt that adding the other two primary colors - red and yellow - was a given. You'll notice that the inside of the arch is a vivid light blue. This paint, Iridescent Electric Blue from Daniel Smith, was the color of the marquee from Hollywood Theater. It seemed like a perfect color to use for the inside of the arch. I find this piece very relaxing to look at which, for me, is different than most abstracts which can be very hectic in nature. Please note that I use only the finest watercolor paints - either from Daniel Smith or Winsor Newton. They are designed to last well over 100 years. Also, I also use only the finest watercolor paper. In this case, it's Arches 300 lb cold press watercolor paper. It also can stand the test of time. Please note that I will send a Certificate of Authenticity if requested.

Nancy Riedell, an internationally recognized, award winning artist originally from California and now living in Nevada, graduated from San Francisco State University where she studied Fine Arts. Classes included figure drawing, color values, acrylics, oils, and art history. Nancy’s love of art goes back to childhood as her mother encouraged her to develop her art skills by giving her art materials and art books so that she could develop her technique. Nancy’s current medium is watercolor. The bold use of colors and interesting landscapes has played a strong role in Nancy’s unique paintings. She feels that although she has been working with art since childhood, it is only within the last few years that she has felt the calling to go back into her art. Her work reflects her passion well by using strong, saturated color and theme. Nancy likes to take advantage of every opportunity and is known to photograph subjects for future paintings. She has captured beautiful sunrises in Monterey County, unique beach scenes in Santa Cruz County and unusual rock formations in New Mexico. Nancy’s art has been displayed in galleries in both the United States, England, and most recently, France. Nancy has been in four publications and has received seven awards to date. Nancy is a current member of the California Watercolor Assn, the National Watercolor Assn, and the Sierra Watercolor Society.
