About The Artwork
Acrylic with added mother of pearl iridescence - and metallic red glitter on large deep edged canvas. To achieve a deep rich red the background to the painting is built up with multiple layers of rich varied reds, brown and purple hues, then distressed to create the feel of a fragment of aged opulent tapestry. The pattern, based on an old fabric pattern was first drawn out on card, cut out to form a stencil and then superimposed in red and orange hues onto the background. Mother of pearl iridescence was added to the pattern and the whole painting distressed to marry elements together, finally sealed with a matt varnish. On Canvas stretched onto deep edged frame with painted sides ready to go on the wall.

Born in 1960's London - there followed a nomadic upbringing around Europe - later India ... which led to a fascination with the look, feel, flavour, colour and taste of place, the differences, the similarities. After Art studies at Chelsea School of Art Peter went on to become a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer. With Art the idea is to be free, outside the maelstrom of modern life, to focus on being creative, to gaze calmly at the world, be curious, to have fun and work with a sense of play. He's intrigued by the essence of place, a spirit or feel and the different qualities place can evokes, ... calm, memory, nostalgia, revelation, portent. He continues to travel widely and seeks to reclaim watercolour painting as a cutting edge, cool and edgy. He lives in London.
