ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting expresses the need for rest and serenity. The place where we retreat. Our personal space. We recover and gather new energy and recharge. A place of stillness. A place for new beginnings. Before I started this painting I went into meditation. Took some time of reflection. This space of stillness is a place of being. The still experience of existence. The Magic of Life. Sometimes it is good to withdraw to put oneself out there afterwards. The individuum in white colour represents the purity. The fluid loose sketchy brush strokes give shape to someone who feels dissolving. Melting with the moment. Letting go and receive. The is no demand no activity just the joy of being. I live in London UK. An amazing buzzing energetic city where such calm times as depicted here are nearly a kind luxury. The black Background represents emptiness. Enough space for new inspiration. New inspiration and insights come at quiet times. The black also represents the withdraw from outside stimulation and focus inward without distractions. When I walk in nature I get drawn into the texture of tree bark, the vein patterns of a leaf, the sound, but also sense there is more it is the pulse of life. The earth inhales and exhales. Every Tree has an individual character. In mythology every tree is inhabited by spirits. Every house is. How complex is the human soul? Gabriele Höhne grew up in the “Ruhr Valley” in Germany as it transformed from polluted heavy industrial centre to post-industrial cultural hub. After graduation Gabriele worked as an Art Director in advertising and interaction design. Her artistic soul found home in London where she took up painting to, as she puts it, let her spirit fly. Her work explores dreamworlds, perception of life events, and personal emotions
