About The Artwork
The River Naver in Sutherland was at the centre of the infamous Highland Clearances of the 18th and early 19th century. Crofters were forced from their homes and the land was turned over to sheep-farming. The area has a melancholy feel, and although people are returning to live here again, the memory of the Clearances is very strong.
