Art Description

Painting: Found Objects, Environmental, Dye Transfer on Canvas, Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric), Stainless Steel, Other.

Here is a series of abstract paintings I have created using a variety of materials, some expensive and cheap, allowing nature to dictate the etching process and transfer of pigmentation and detail onto the canvas.

This was a happy accident that came after one of my etching plates rusted in my studio. When I thought about how I could use this damage to my advantage I started taking my etching plates outside of the studio. By allowing nature to create my plates, the elements generate their own details and pigment. What is traditionally a detailed and highly controlled process becomes autonomous, free and experimental. I have been exploring the beauty of natural processes by seeing how they can create delicate patterns and colours without human interference.
