About The Artwork

I am on the rocking horse and the biggest; one of the perks of being the artist, really Sue is the eldest, then Frank, me, Ruth and Deb The location is down the yard at the end of a sloping drive by the side of our childhood home, a 3 storey Victorian house in Caterham Surrey. Just beyond the wire fence of the yard was the rail track, with a wooden signal box opposite. We weren't supposed to play in the yard - but we did when we could get away with it. The small pear tree pictured had stomach achingly hard pears, filled with the budgies mum bred from 2 that Frank brought home one day - Bebe & Bobo - perched in its branches. There are lots of references to our shared childhoods in the painting, including a list of the most popular songs of the time written into the wood of the rocking horse's rockers. I hope viewers can relate to the painting and find the subtle clues about our relationships with each other, and spark thoughts about their own childhood, what we inherit from our parents and what we share with our siblings. I used acrylics for the most part with transferred and collaged images and some pigment pens. The painting has a wooden white box frame. This painting has been selected for INHERITANCE at Norwich Castle Museum Spring 2018, available for purchase May 2018.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Arrived 1950 Caterham, Surrey. My most embarrassing moment was being caught shoplifting a bracelet from Woolworth's when I was 12. I wish it had been a more expensive item from a decent jewelers. My biggest regret is not taking more chances in life. I have been using Photoshop as part of my process since the 90’s. A rough collage is created and this is used as the reference for drawing the work onto canvas. I work with acrylics in the early stages to speed up the painting process, they often produce accidents and challenges I incorporate into the final work. The freedom and loose quality of this keeps the painting immediate. Realistically painted areas contrast and create tension with bold brushstrokes and graphic elements. I work in series, exploring themes like the North Norfolk landscape, autoimmune liver disease, mythology and Jenny Holzer’s truisms.
