About The Artwork

"Sacred Fire" is a square abstract painting where a vibrant central red explosion captures joy, serenity and freedom. This large abstract canvas embodies Catherine Maddens' deep intuition to channel intense emotions through ample gestures, anchored in her artistic process. At the heart of this painting, a deep red mixing ink and acrylic creates an intense and vibrant hue, defying photographic capture. Each element of the composition converges to celebrate the purity of color, with intentional simplicity allowing the colors to spread harmoniously on a thick raw cotton canvas. Inspired by Color Field painting and the works of Helen Frankenthaler, Maddens brings thoughtful elegance to "Sacred Fire", offering much more than a visual spectacle. This creation is a profound emotional exploration of color, resonating with the power and delicacy of abstract expressionism. Each colour fusion is in dialogue with the viewer’s intimate experiences. An abstract canvas that plunges into the sensitive emotional depths of contemporary abstract art.

Catherine Maddens nurtures a committed artistic practice, dedicated to abstract painting. His work, translation of vital energy, materializes in a symphony of vibrant colors, each canvas becoming the theater of a singular physical and cathartic experience. Coming from a rich artistic environment in Normandy, she was immersed in a creative universe, thanks to an amateur painter-sculptor father. His deep love for Art, impregnated by the colors of the Impressionists, was reinforced by the support of his plastic arts teacher. Despite a path that led her to study Clinical Psychology and work as a graphic designer, painting has remained a constant, a persistent dream. Her determination finally led her to realize her ambition: to be a totally painter. Her work revolves around exploring the nuances of human consciousness and spiritual energy. Themes that she translates in her abstract painting to enter into existential and conscientious resonance with the observer. She is interested in healing processes. She uses her practice as a platform to probe these aspects of the human experience. All her work resonates so strongly with her time and she always seeks to be part of what is called "Art History". Catherine Maddens employs a diverse range of techniques and materials. Acrylic, gouache, oil sticks, pastels, oil paint, aerosols and diverted everyday tools are all means she uses to shape her experimental approach. His abstract paintings celebrate the purity and power of Color, its ability to create space and change our perception of what we see. Anchored in an inner process of erasure, disappearance, visible and invisible human memory, Color are the framework of his explorations. Catherine Maddens challenges the viewer, inviting them to reflect on the subtle ephemeral nature of the complexity of human existence. Catherine Maddens seeks to discern how color and form reveal hidden aspects of our reality. By celebrating the autonomy of Color, she creates visual landscapes that spark introspective reflection and encourage an enriching dialogue with the viewer. The autonomy of Color in his work makes it possible to articulate a unique language, transcending traditional limits and inviting a deep sensory, intellectual and spiritual experience. Graphic designer for 30 years, freelance for 14 years at the Maison des Artistes. Since 2013, I have pursued a professional artistic career.
