About The Artwork
Sacred Ground description : This Abstract Expressionist landscape painting “Sacred Ground”, summarises a rainy day I spent walking with my family, in a beautiful corner of the Peak District National Park in the UK. Part of the walk included a steep rocky descent into a deep atmospheric gorge, known as Lud’s Church, a place of geographical, historical and spiritual interest.This abstract expressive landscape represents an emotional response to my experience at the time, in this unique area of Britain's countryside. It's evocative of somewhere uniquely special. To achieve the effect of the mystical atmosphere and diverse topography. I layered oil, over acrylic, over gesso primer for texture and used colours contrasting in tone. Mark making and a variety of techniques also work in combination to complete the desired effect. This painting is signed bottom right. (not visible in this image)

Born 1965,Northampton, UK. I am currently painting and drawing from my studio in an old shoe factory in my home town of Northampton. 1988 - I graduated with a BA (hons) in Fashion and Textiles with Business . My work experience as a textile designer includes London-based fashion and furnishing studios and the contemporary interiors company; Designers Guild. During my training as a textile designer, I developed my own style of painting, printing and drawing. Paint has always been my medium of choice. Oils are particularly preferential, as they enable me to create areas of surface texture or depth by layering and adding mediums for flow.
