Born in 1991 as an Egyptian-Canadian, Alex has wrestled with his own and fellow immigrant heritage. Tumultuously growing through Ontario suburbia and into greater metropolitan areas across Canada, Alex finds solace in searching for racial, cultural and political variances that challenge conventional and normative ideals. With an unwavering commitment to honouring soldiers unknown, Alex works to share stories untold and, in some cases, lost forever. Imbuing a reflexive sense of self dissatisfaction for not having had the chance to contribute during war time efforts, his work emboldens and exemplifies contemporary unknowns, most usually characterized as faceless figures reaching backwards to ancient Egyptian, two-dimensional hieroglyphs whose stories are both historically and contemporarily misunderstood by general audiences today.
