Sayonara Painting

I did this job after I lost my job contract. I was so annoyed,, i just wanted to say 'sayonara' to the place. This is a really raw and primitive painting and the aggressiveness of the content reflected my mood at the time. Ironically in order to paint this primitive almost naïve style, I needed to be constantly drawing and painting or else it just wouldn’t work. The reason for this is that in order to keep that fresh look about it you can labour over it. What you put on needs to be right the first time. Although the construction of the characters in this kind of painting look simple, they require a lot more effort than it looks. It’s a bit like writing, it can be more difficult to sum up a complex idea in a paragraph or especially a sentence. Bringing all the key elements down into the smallest unit is the common denominator in both writing and painting. A Picasso said, it took him a lifetime to learn how to paint like a child.
