Inspired by Frank Auerbach and Chaim Soutine, I sat down in front of the mirror and painted myself. This is one of the results. Hopefully, you will enjoy the vitality, the colours and the 3D of the picture. This painting was originaly painted for an exhibition called "Selfie" in Germany. It is one in a series of twelve self portraits, all painted impasto with a spatula and a brush and in variant colour schemes.

Germany
Born in N. Gemany, I moved to Hamburg when I was three and spent my childhood there. Since my Art Studies at HAW Hamburg approximately 30 years ago, I have been working as an artist. I now live in a little village in the north of Germany called Oelixdorf. I paint mainly portraits and figures in oil on canvas. Nothing interests me so much as a human face does and I use only best materials when painting. My inspiration I take from Chaim Soutine, David Bomberg and Frank Auerbach, among others. Generally, I make a sketch of my model before starting to paint. My interest lies in the appearance and psyche of my model. Dialogue between my model and myself are pivotal to my being able to capture the model from inside and out. Technically I use oil on canvas to convey what I see and feel in my model. Currently, contrary to my portraits to date, I am searching for the anonymity and exchangeability in people. I see a change in society such that individuals, in the throes of individualisation, become more and more alike. It is no longer the individual that I depict but the exchangabilty of individuals. I live and work in Oelixdorf, Germany
