About The Artwork

When creating works, I have a concept that I am exploring. The main concepts I seem to explore continuously revolve around my life in the city's industrial landscape. My paintings attempt to express feelings and ideas about contemporary city life and its impact on me emotionally and psychologically. I delve into how the city has evolved since the industrial era, finding moments of joy in its transformations while reflecting on the consequences of our choices in this urban landscape. My paintings consider the freedom and indulgent experiences of nightlife when released from the conformity of the working day. Vague memories of wild nights spent in the city, the dimly lit back streets that hold both mystery and danger, and the vibrant and colourful clubs, bars, and restaurants where we surrender to our desires and passions, enjoying the music and the company of strangers. I remember the passion and desire that ignited me and am profoundly aware of the price I paid for those pleasures. I celebrate the experience of post-industrial existence while also considering the effects and consequences of our pleasures. I'm interested in the contrast between the natural world and the harsh and rigid man-made structures we live in. How our soft, delicate bodies and minds operate inside these concrete and steel machines. I hope to create an alternative consideration of urban existence by considering these elements together. It's a deeply personal and reflective journey on the person I was and the person I've become.
