Silence of silt (7) Painting

On the Western Scheldt, near Rilland, we took photos of the same square meter of mud for a year. Not just any mud! That slurping mud with those beautiful grooves. If you walk on top of the dike, it all looks alike. But if you look up close it seems the waves are coming ashore. As if it is the sea’s very own fingerprint. After each tide the mud’s structures change. Fascinating. At low tide, on the mudflats in front of us, 14 fat seals, asleep. Beyond this impressive view, the largest containerships built so far, navigate the winding sea-lane to the busy port of Antwerp. As the sun sets, the pattern of the silt and the remaining water in between, transforms into a futuristic landscape of reddish orange pink mystery. This painting is number seven of the silt series. The world in miniature. We - as a couple - work on all paintings together. We are inspired by nature and life in general: whatever makes a positive impact will sooner or later be part of our work. We encourage you to feel the work, rather than to 'observe' it. This is, of course, best done live! Because internet is not the best place to encounter the spirit of our paintings, we provide several details, so you might get the glimpse of what the painting is all about. As all the paintings that we make together, this work has got depth, a special structure across the whole surface. The work is not framed and not suitable for framing. The structures continue over the edges. It is signed by the both of us and ready to hang. The painting itself weighs xx kilo.
