About The Artwork
This small oil on board painting portrays Simpsons Gap in the West Macdonnell Ranges National Park. It is a small oasis surrounded by desert, sheltered by the ancient mountains depicted. The scene has been stylised as with much of my work, adding an abstracted drama to the cliffs and by imagining the scene under the full moon referencing Caspar David Friedrich and my other favourite moon painters from historic romanticism.
