Painting: Oil, Acrylic on Canvas, Wood.
Painting from the series Spatial history, a series of autobiographical landscapes, with emotional, personal connection to significant place identity that makes us who we are.
Familiar loved places, people, events and the passage of time, leaving an atmosphere of nostalgia and saudade.
Saudade is a Portuguese word that claims no direct translation in English, which describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. It brings sad and happy feelings together, sadness for missing and happiness for having experienced the feeling; a bitter sweetness. Something to do with holding things together is about both my creativity and my connection to the open coastal spaces of my childhood doing just that.
I paint to convey a mood, an atmosphere, a suadade ( a love that remains ) for the viewer.
Signed on the side of the canvas and ready to hang.
