About The Artwork

The abstract concept of presence in nature is expressed through gestural marks and explored through abstraction in painting. Gestural marks contain fleetingness and capture elusive things that cannot be seen. Inspired by walks along the river Thames; not the busy part near the big city but a stretch not far from the spring. The painting explores entropy; movement of water in the river.

Sandra Chin is a contemporary artist based in the South West of England. Following a career change in 2016, Sandra took up an opportunity to start a Masters in Fine Art at Bath Spa University from where she graduated in 2018. Her work has been exhibited and sold in the UK since 2017. 'My paintings are a response to a dialogue; conversations between the landscape and humanity, time and the elements. I like to explore the landscape and the vegetation that lies within its perimeter. Being outdoors, physically and mentally immersing myself in nature is very important to me. Traversing different terrains, seeing the landscape transformed by the elements and seasons inspire the start of new ideas. Dynamics and tensions between humanity & nature are often a recurring theme in my works. To me a painting begins with a photograph or drawing to hold a moment or thought or memory. Collected moments are translated into intuitive, gestural marks and expressive use of colour, led by the emotional response of gathered experiences.'
