About The Artwork
This depicts large concrete structures built in the 1920s to 1930s to detect the approach of enemy aircraft, the largest being a 200 x 20 feet curved wall, shown on the left of my picture. The largest dish structure is 30 feet in diameter Sound waves were reflected to a microphone at the focus of the curved surfaces. They could only detect aircraft about 12 miles away and so, with increasing aircraft speeds and the development of radar in the early 30s, were abandoned. They are now protected structures.

Born in the county of East Sussex, UK, during WW2. This area of UK still inspires a lot of my work although having spent most of my life in S.London. Have always dabbled in art but after two years as a Radio Officer in the British Merchant Navy chose a career in Electronic Engineering. Over the past two and a half decades my guide and mentor for my work has been professional painter and lecturer Michael Horn (http://www.michaelhornstudio.co.uk/ ) Landscape, architecture, ships and the sea,jive dance and nature are all influential on my work. London, East Sussex and Norfolk are my main sources for landscape work. My preferred media are ink,oil paint and more recently gouache.
