About The Artwork

SPAZIANDO (acrylic and mirror mosaic on canvas 150 x 50 cm) The work Spaziando presents itself as a metaphor of the perceived urgency of the female universe to occupy more space and to broaden its borders and sphere of influence. The work represents a tribute to the feminist movement and to some artists who have contributed to making it great, in most cases unknowingly: Frida Kahlo, a controversial personality, great example of a situation still experienced by many people, nonconformist, full of the spirit of freedom and embedded in a challenge to a spiritual independence perhaps never fully achieved in his life, but certainly in his art; Aretha Franklin, an incredible singer who gave voice to Respect, one of the anthems of the feminist movement, and finally Yoko Ono, a weird artist and performer who, with her first works from the second half of the 60s, perfectly embodied the cultural ferment of the female universe of those years and times to come. The sequence of female icons ends with a mosaic of regular mirrors, placed to suggest a "participatory" action shared by all the spectators: the action of mirroring oneself inside the work. Through the emulation of an action that has always embodied the occupations and the toilet of the female universe, the viewer is invited to question his own interpretation of stereotypes thanks to the reverberation of his own image present in the mosaic tiles in the perspective to make them aware of the countless and changing ways they have at their disposal to show their femininity.
