About The Artwork
Setting out on the road to "hunt" down these relic mid-century signs is a fun experience. Here I think I capture a piece of the past in the Bel Air Motel sign in Austin, Texas. A reminder of the past, people still love to hit the open road and discover America in the towns and along routes less traveled. I feel that with watercolor I can capture the look and feel of the sun beating down on the worn surface. It takes a number of passes to build the color, but it's worth it. Original is currently on Exhibit with the Michigan Water Color Society 76th Annual Exhibition and will travel to several venues until January 2024. Prints are available here.
