“These abstract paintings are inspired by a return to nature and an appreciation of all of its beauty. As a teen I would spend many hours walking in the forests of the Laurentians where I grew up, stopping, looking and exploring all that was around me down to the finest detail. I would draw the small parts of a larger subject, enjoying the intricacies of each shape and structure. The rebirth of this appreciation came about when a lake that my family visits froze solid without being snow covered. The surface was like a mirror that went on for miles. The reflections in the ice were no longer mountain, sky and tree, but colour, shape and texture. I rediscovered that day that Nature is indeed filled with a treasure trove of shapes, colours and textures. This body of work is an expression of these experiences.”

~ Stewart Fletcher ~

This original oil painting is done on a masonite board mounted on a pine support and the edges ave been painted black. The work is signed only on the back so as not to distract away from the composition. It comes accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity

Stewart Fletcher’s paintings, drawings and works on paper have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions over the past forty years. His paintings, drawings and works on paper are part of several private international collections in over 20 countries and in 36 American States. Known for his fascination with the human body, Fletcher explores various concepts beyond the representational image. The great equalizer he believes is when one's clothing is removed. All identifiers and societal statuses disappear and the real person appears. Fletcher does not believe that his work is erotic, however some people do because of their social, religious and regional upbringing. He often uses humour and satire to convey his views on the world around him..
