About The Artwork

This mountain landscape is part of a series of paintings based on drawn studies made while hiking Stara Planina. The mountain range expands across Bulgaria to the border of Serbia, and is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. The layers of paint and built up texture recreates the ochre and grey rocks, moss, wild flowers and grasses; scratching and scrapping back, working each layer quickly to capture the movement, scrapping back again and the next day's scene added, to be scratched back and worked again. Working this way feels more in tune with the landscape. This series has been created on specialist canvas paper made for oil paint, and mounted on wooden panel. The paint is Daler Rowney Georgian range and it is finished with varnish. This piece can be hung as it is or framed, it measures 37cm x 26cm. The texture of the brushstrokes and palette knives are visible in places, and as you move closer the multiple layers of paint and glaze become more obvious. The larger canvas paintings in this series will be exhibited in Bulgaria later this year. The artwork is securely packed and has a certificate of authenticity.
