Stars and Stripes Painting

Stars and Stripes is an installation of an oil triptych painted on three canvases, with mixed media (wood and rope). Rather than hanging the three canvases on the wall in a conventional manner, two of the canvases are resting on large wooden blocks on the floor, one askew. The third canvas rests on the ground, askew, next to a pile of hemp rope. It is as though the weight of the mountains depicted in the triptych is too heavy to lift, so they must rest on the ground. This triptych oil painting of Mt. Rushmore was inspired by its historical controversy as a national monument, viewed during 2020's unprecedented simultaneous racial, political and Covid crises.
