About The Artwork
I love looking at art from across time and place and finding ways to enmesh these sources together with my own lived experience. This piece has includes a print of a Ruisdael drawing, a still life and urban waterscape painted from life, and some hollowed out Cezanne apples. I start with a collage that combines my own imagery with source material and then I have it printed onto canvas or linen. Once I have stretched and primed the surface, I work back into it, usually with paint, but sometimes with mixed media. It's like solving a puzzle, creating a new pictorial space from these disparate elements.
