‘Stories 03’ - part of my new ‘Colour Stories’ collection
This mixed media artwork was created during the 'lockdown' here in the UK. A time of great creative exploration for me.

In this collection of 'Colour Stories' I felt I had the time and freedom to explore new ideas, new mediums and new ways of working.
It really does feel like this work has been inside of me for a while, waiting to burst out. And now it has at last exploded to the surface.

For some reason this time has given me a lot more headspace. Maybe with quieter surroundings, a quieter world, my internal world has been allowed to open up even more. And everything just came to the surface, or so it felt. Sometimes in a very chaotic way. And other times very calmly. Which I think may be reflected in this work.

This time has taught me a lot about creativity. It can feel like it comes in waves, you have to make sure you are there to catch the wave and then hopefully be able to stay on it, with the momentum of it. If you fall off the wave, it takes a lot more energy and effort to get back on, to get into the zone and the flow of it again.

What has helped me this time is having two bodies of work in progress at the same time.
When one has engulfed me a bit too much and I sense I need a break from it, I go back to the other one. Everything looks different seeing that work again because I have been so engrossed in the other, I see it with fresh eyes and energy again.
