About The Artwork
I remember the first time I painted another human. It felt different. It felt like my painting carried their story, and that a piece of them would always exist in the work I had created. And dang, was that a cool feeling. I am inspired by so many women in my life- strong, creative, and ridiculously intelligent women. I wanted to paint them. I wanted their strength, beauty and inspiring stories to be expressed on a canvas. This is a painting of one of my best friends, Caity. She is one of the strongest and most talented people I know. I hope I did her justice. Painting the women in my life felt like, for the first time, I was able to say that the world does not get to dictate who deserves to be celebrated. That these women, who carry the stories of their ancestors, deserve to be immortalized through paint. How lucky am I to be able to share in that creation- In the celebration of the incredible women who have helped me grow, challenged me to be a better person, and who go out and change the world every single day.

Erica Prasad is an Indian-American painter whose work depicts the beauty of the ordinary and the way a space, person or landscape makes her feel. Primarily working with oil on canvas, her pieces are created with an expressive style that leans toward realism while exploring the magic of color that can only be achieved through oil paint. From the Artist: I paint snapshots of tender, ordinary life. My work is a study of intimate moments of human connection that ground us and help us realize our fundamental relation to one another. Beginning with memories from my own life, I choose a frame and a color palette based on the way the experience made me feel. I use detailed textures such as fabric or wrinkles to create pieces that feel deeply personal yet universal. Combined with vibrant colors and fluid brush strokes, I aim to provide a sense of comfort and familiarity in the images portrayed. Ultimately, I hope the viewer is able to recognize a piece of their own story and move forward to see a world of hope and compassion we can create together.
