About The Artwork
Painted from the photography of Jaki Hawthorne and the model and belly dancer Rachel Brice. Permission was given by both women to recreate this image into a painting. The title was inspired by a song from Devotchka called "Queen of the Surface Streets." The image combines elements of rugged, city life and ethereal royalty. Painted with a mix of precise details and loose brushwork, "Subterranean Venus" brings two styles of realism painting together on one canvas. Gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted black, "Subterranean Venus" is ready to hang and does not require a frame.
