Sun of God Painting

Inspired by a fictional exploration of the dichotmic nature of Christ, human and divine. This work investigates and focuses on the emergance of the human spirit from withing the veil of earthly struggles through the experience of Jesus Christ. This study portrays the recognisable iconic silhouette of Christ trapped between accusation and condemnation of man’s ignorance and the powerful manifestation of the message of love represented vigorously by Jesus's face. The depth in contrast between the foreground and background colours resembles the eternal and ruthless conflict between the spirit and the flesh, where both pain and pleasure are elaborately and conceptually revealed. The painting technique used in this piece was not pre-set, it developed as the work was coming to life and materialised genuinely to complement the concept of spiritual birth and emergence of the spirit to overcome pain and suffering at any cost even one’s life. The hoarse textural effect rendered by oil pastel contributed in conveying the feeling of harshness and suffering as well as the substance of the vessel Jesus occupied in other words, the body. You notice the dark black areas surfacing through the lighter red areas, whereas technically the lighter areas were applied first and then black on top to be able to carve the forms which took shape towards the end of the work. This method also allowed the integration of yet another concept which helped depict the message. The viewer will notice scratches and strokes all over the piece which resemble a form of mystic and supernatural language, the language of love that Jesus received and delivered, the scratches are coloured gold to communicate language of a higher order. The feeling I care to share with observers while viewing the artwork is the empathy, humility and majesty of the character development and life of Jesus. I've always found myself inclined to abstract expressionism, this style allows me to express most of my artistic messages and concepts freely and dinamically within a static frame.
