About The Artwork

Sunvik Edition 23 explores the anthropomorphic nature of the sea. The artistic experience has a curious relationship with life’s difficulties and challenges. The benefit is that art is a sphere of existence where the most challenging of circumstances and torment can be transformed into something beautiful or significant, even both. It is an area of life that appeals because the process cannot achieve anything worthy or meaningful unless there is authenticity and a level of honesty in front of the canvas or lens, rarely acceptable in most other areas of life. It is also a secret and mysterious world where everything is on view, but nothing really is known. Unless that is, if the creator decides to reveal secrets. Verisart Certificates of Authentication (including on the blockchain) and signed by artist. NFT tokengated access.   Shipped in a box

Shaped by over 25 years of working and living in some of the toughest communities around the world, Nigel brings to his artistic work formative experiences of the human condition. He wrestles with questions of meaning, hope, and finds inspiration derived from individual and collective action overcoming injustice and hardship. Nigel cites his creative influences amongst others as the New York abstract expressionist movement of the 1950s, and the visual works of August Stringberg and Joseph M W Turner. Nigel (b67) was born in Wigan, a former coal mining and textile town in the Northwest of England. Leaving school at 16, he later went on to study theology in London and Philadelphia, and holds a MBA from the University of Liverpool. The artist is also founder of calyah, a design and craft company that brings together award winning designers with artisans from underserved communities. He lives between Grindelwald in the Swiss Alps, and on the south coast of Sweden. Nigel is married to Christina and they have three daughters, Sofia, Emilia, and Daniella.
