About The Artwork

Acrylic on canvas, 40 inch x 30 inch, to be displayed as portrait or landscape depending on your preference. The work is a layered piece. The first layer has very vivid, colourful outward and inward strokes from/to the centre to depict the busy, overwhelmingly positive but sometimes negative emotions, multi tasking and fast pace that comes with motherhood. The second layer depicted by the white strokes with yellow, pink and orange highlights are the outwardly public face of motherhood. The third layer is of an explosion of emotion be it love, anger, fear or the need to protect that can overtake in any given situation. Overall, you should see the heart of a sunflower. A symbol of beauty, strength, resilience, nurturing and potential for new life. It was painted only with lollipop sticks and baby wipes as I wanted to create it using tools associated with being a mum!

Tracey Thornton was born and raised in greater London and now lives with her husband and two, young sons in Surrey. Tracey's family inspire and motivate her to capture moments of sheer joy, that many will relate to, such as: messing about in a meadow in "Butterfly Storm"; or playing hide and seek in a bluebell wood in "Silver and Blue". Tracey works predominantly in acrylic, collage and mixed-media in a vibrant, contemporary style. Tracey donates a percentage of the value of each piece of artwork sold to charity, calling it, "feel good art in every way". Current Collection: Butterfly Series Tracey's Butterfly Series in mixed-media adopts 3-D or 2D butterflies to beautifully represent scenarios, emotions, senses or actions whilst bringing additional movement to this distinctive collection. Pieces include landscapes and abstract work in "First Flight" and embrace colour in a liberated style, rewarding the viewer with a sense of well being. From July 2016, Tracey has been a resident artist with Flat Space Art, Notting Hill, London. The Art Agency, Esher, was showing work from Tracey's Butterfly Series from June 2016. Tracey continues to exhibit locally, and online at 1stdibs, Artsy, Saatchi Art and Fine Art America.
