Sunrise, Mont St Victoire, with Jacaranda Painting

When visiting Aix-en-Provence in 2015, I came across the place from which Cezanne painted 28 versions of Mont St Victoire. I took photographs, and so the mountain's profile in this painting is identical to Cezanne's. After that, the similarity ends. This shows influences of Australian Aboriginal Art, where paintings often double as maps. Here, you can trace a pathway to the summit by following the ochre dots. Dots too are a feature of much Aboriginal painting. Here though there is also play with perspective - larger dots are nearer - and also references to pointillism.
