About The Artwork

The concept behind it is hinted at through the title. It suggests how Beethoven may be listening to something that reminds him of 2020 which also may be reflected through his stern expression. A humorous hint at how we very much want to be as far away as possible from that time of our lives! Beethoven, as an important classical musical figure, wears these large modern day headphones to transport him into today's world of music. Perhaps he feels sorry for us and the audacity of what modern day music has become. Apart from a few of course (not all music is terrible nowadays) but much of it is a lot less organic in comparison to his time. I can't imagine he would be very appreciative. Live music was a forgotten thing for us last year too, which many of us missed so much, I know I spent most of the year plugged into my headphones trying to fill that gap.

I am a contemporary figurative artist based in Brighton. Born in Scotland I was raised as an athlete but always strived to be a painter. The disciplined nature of my upbringing is reflecting in the meticulously detailed artworks I create. Spending four years at Edinburgh College of Art and a period at the Hungarian University of Fine Art, my fascination for classical architecture and sculpture strengthened. The fascination for the grandiosity of renaissance art contrasting with banal everyday life has been the propeller for the oil paintings in my recent painting series. Fusing classism with contemporary in order to provoke a dialogue concerning current social or political issues. My paintings build a bridge between the old and the new. The Sculptures in my paintings are meticulously chosen subject to their concepts, mythology or tableaux to sympathise with contemporary issues. I am continuing to create oil paintings in relation to the ever-changing experiences the world is faced with.
