THE RISE OF A NEW MYTHOLOGY Painting

The artwork is titled "The rise of a new mythology" and was made with mixed media (acrylic painting, crayons, markers, pencils, collages)n canvas in 2019. I dealt with the theme of union starting from the point of view of colors, which is the central focus of my research. I started with a first layer of colorful elements, juxtaposed but still independent of each other. This variety of colors and signs generated a chaos at the beginning, which was then appeased by white, black and their nuances. The two opposite poles, charged with their absolute symbolism, have provided space and time for the reflection and the metabolization of the many different stimuli. In fact it is not enough to add the different elements to generate something new, harmonious and interesting. The work then continued by subtracting color, adding more or less covering layers, smoothing out the forms and making new ones emerge. Traces of the first layers are still visible on the canvas, as a memory of the slow, tiring and constantly evolving process that involves the union of heterogeneity. The figurative images were applied with collage, cut out by hand and glued to the canvas. They symbolically represent 3 different moments of the process of union and transformation depicted in the work. The old woman sitting down represents the end of the old myths, of a mentality destined to die, and indicates the difficulty, which often becomes incapacity, for the old ones to open up to change and participate in the generation of a new value. The female figure standing, on the left, like Cassandra is able to intuit the future that advances with its possibilities. He predicts it intuitively and sings it passionately to her contemporaries, without perhaps being able to see it come to life. The third figure, the dancing child on the right, is instead a manifestation of the change taking place, bearing within it the fruit of the new value generated by the meeting of the multitude. As a solar and feminine divinity, dispenser of grace and beauty, she melts the tensions and lumps of color, generated by the encounter / clash of the many elements placed on the canvas, in a light smile.
