About The Artwork
This beaded painting, entitled Taken By Storm, depicts the White House after President Obama was inaugurated. This piece consists of an extreme bead embroidery on oval stretched canvas. The White House was first constructed from layered felt. Then, tiny glass seed beads, crystals, Czech glass flowers, and German glass leaves were stitched to felt using needle and strong nylon thread. The finished beadwork was then stitched to a 36" painted oval canvas. The canvas depicts a media 'storm' over the White House. This was created with newspaper cutouts (reporting major news stories about the war and the state of our economy). On the South Lawn sits a beaded Bo, the Obama family's Portuguese Water Dog. Beaded bees and tiny glass birds help to make the lawn and trees around the White House come alive. This piece took approx. 6 months to create from start to finish.
