About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, all sides painted, no staples, with back braces, ready for show. Here I am rumminating on Mark Rothko once again. I like to think I have something to add regarding color field abstraction. It has taken me nearly a year to get this composition and motif the way I want it. I have employed a light over dark structure. Unlike Rothko, who used highly diluted applications of paint, my color field work tends toward the heavily layered approach when it comes to acrylic paint. I mixed color right on the support as I painted. After working with acrylic paint for a couple decades now, I am still learning quite a lot about the qualities of the medium. By the way, if I have never explained, I work primarily in acrylic because I seem to have some kind of allergic reaction to oil. I don't know if that's a real thing or not, but I definitely have an aversion to oil paint. Acrylic paint also seems to lend itself to mixed media application a little better than oil. So I admire Rothko greatly but I do differ from him in at least a couple ways. Thank you for looking. Peace and Love.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history, on my own. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner as well. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The painting process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. As I paint, color and material are combined on the canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
