According to a legend, in the period in which Sicily was dominated by the Moors, a man fell madly in love with a young and beautiful Sicilian woman. The man courts the woman until he gives in, all's well that ends well, but no, the woman discovers that the Moro has a bride in his homeland, gripped by anger - because she felt like a lover who he distracted and entertained - he cut off his head and hung him on the balcony as a vase, planting a basil plant. The plant grew so luxuriant that it was the envy of the entire neighborhood, so they decided to plant the basil in a dark brown head-shaped pot as a sign of good luck. I wanted to pay homage to Sicily with this painting by depicting a very popular legend, that of the Moor's Heads.

Cristian Miceli is an Italian painter, draughtsman and portraitist who lives in Sicily, in Agira in the province of Enna. The passion for Art was born as a child while looking at the works of the great Italian masters in books, with the aim of becoming, one day, like them. He attended the Liceo Artistico Luigi e Mariano Cascio in Enna, there he perfected his skill in drawing and portraiture, maturing a realistic perception of drawing and painting, thus adopting realism as his main style. In the middle of the course he was fascinated by the processing and carving of wood, he decided to follow the course in 'Wood and Furniture Design' of which he graduated in 2020, in order to be able to work as an Interior Designer. He does not abandon, at all, his passion for painting, indeed, from the beginning of 2023 he becomes professional. His subjects range from portraits to still lifes, bodies and landscapes.
